Modern Monstergirls is an ongoing expansion-oriented storyverse created by Pennsylvania Kite Weather. It debuted on bodyinflation.org on July 14th, 2017, with the first entry, Out of Drought. The stories are also available on Swell Tales, DeviantArt, and FurAffinity.
Background
Most stories take place in a metro area of the United States on the fringes of the Deep South. An untold number of centuries ago, the world was settled by humans who vastly outnumber countless species of extra-human people. In the twenty-first century, monstergirls are still varying shades of civilized citizens and unadjusted, sometimes isolated individuals and colonies. Magic also survives in the modern day though its practice is limited to rumor-level secrecy.
(Spoilers continue throughout.)
Major Characters
Liliace the alraune
Liliace is a plantgirl who's connected to a large orange flower. Her roots allow her to move underground and overground; the first which helped her appear in a young man's backyard during her debut story, Out of Drought, and rampage using them like a giant serpent tail in her most recent appearance, Out of Douse and Being Bigger.
She can absorb most of the water that she comes in contact with and retain it in her curves for hours or days. Greedy for liquid if only for her own survival, and blissfully unaware sometimes at the size of her assets, she winds up popping from a hurricane rolling through and the same man overwatering her in her first story. She was in the middle of regrowing in the sequel, Out of Sprout. She's technically immortal, but her memories get somewhat hazy each time she blooms annually, as revealed when she wakes up in a stranger's yard and eventually falls in love with a beegirl who wants to fill up on a tasty sap the plantgirl produces.
Liliace was reused for Octummber 2019 -
Day 14: Hose
, where she casually steals a family's water with the maneuverable vine that wraps around her featureless figure.
Seta the beegirl
Seta attends a local college as an economics major. She has a stubby bumblebee stinger, rather non-functional wings, and a fuzzy lower abdomen above her backside. Seta vastly admires her queen, a giant monarch ruling over a settlement where Seta's family lives in the nearby forests, but more importantly, she possesses a rampant inflation fetish.
In Being Big, she's inspired by seeing a swollen-up catgirl on the news and decides to have a little private time for herself with a handheld air compressor later that evening. Though her roommate uncovers her secret, she finds a new lover to indulge in her interests.
She encounters Liliace in Out of Douse and Being Bigger, however, she doesn't anticipate the alraune getting so large and so possessive of her that she's abducted. Their fates are currently unknown.
Opalescence the mermaid
Opalescence was dumped from the sea in a family's backyard at the same time that the hurricane that threatened Liliace came through. She has vibrant teal hair and a silvery tail. She was enamored with what the surface world had to offer with an inflatable pool to keep her healthy. As the months dragged on, she was confined to a bathroom and struggled to stay put when she wasn't supposed to be spotted. Spending a while soaking in spiritual teachings over a radio against her will, one day she downed a concoction of soap bubbles and shower water and wound up flooding the family's home when her enormous middle blew apart.
In an alternate storyline, Opalescence settled down with the family and met a lifeguard for a boyfriend in Octummber 2021 -
Day 2: Water
, and got him into her expansive tendencies in
Day 14: Autumn
.
Ceniza the dragongirl
Ceniza debuted in 30 Feet Around at 30,000 Feet High. With scaly emerald-colored hands, wings, and tail, she is an intimidating-looking but mild-mannered creature.
A bilingual migrant to the United States from an Andes mountain village, she was a stowaway from South America to the shores of Florida and was roped into flying secret on a private jet, with an entrepreneur offering her a factory job in the north. Her discomfort over the whole plan made her insides so hot, she expanded like a balloon and outgrew the aircraft at high altitude. She was last seen surviving the fiery wreckage flagging down a human on the ground for help as a newly made felon.
The catgirl
This unnamed character appeared first in Alley Cat, and makes a cameo appearance in a TV news segment in Being Big. A homeless stray without many smarts, she tries to pounce on the narrator of Alley Cat and gets immobilized by an illegal aerosol. She had to be extracted from between two buildings after swelling up hugely, harmlessly, and wanting more. Her unfair treatment made her a rallying figure for other humans sympathetic of monstergirl rights in the city she was in.
The harpies
Unlike most stories in this saga, this group of five half-birds were the inflators in the story Inflation Is for the Birds. They are noisy, unkempt savages that lack dexterous hands in exchange for sharp talons that regularly pluck ordinary men into the sky. A pest exterminator named Mavis approached them to clear them off of a roof of a sandwich shop, and found herself pinned and inflated by the might of their indigo-feathered leader, and her companions of pink, orange, yellow and green. After taking care of the pest doctor, they flew off and their whereabouts are unknown.
Minor Characters
Logan
Logan is a young adult living alone in a one-story flat, and a hobbyist gardener. At the start of his debut, Out of Drought, he was unsure of what to do with Liliace, the attractive living flower that appeared in his yard and suspected was carnivorous or stealing water from his plants. Despite disliking her advances and finding her abilities embarrassing, he kept her healthy during a historic drought, but was too ashamed to admit he was tiring of her. Taking advantage of her being overgrown after a major hurricane, he watered her to her bursting point.
Apparent in the follow-up, Out of Sprout, he thought so much about her in the months after removing her, he experienced a nightmare of her becoming a giant inside his home; which, it so happened, was on the eve of discovering Liliace was indeed regrowing in his yard. Before the events of Out of Douse and Being Bigger, he dug up and gave away the budding alraune to his neighbor.
Marji
Marji is a British novelist living in the US, and Logan's middle-aged neighbor. A skilled gardener, she tends to Liliace after the plantgirl's regrowth in Out of Douse and Being Bigger. She has an elderly dog named Daniel. Not normally upset about much, she was mortified to see her garden demolished in her story.
Rania
Rania is a Black journalist student who rooms with Seta at the campus, and attends a book club ran by Marji with other writing majors from the school. A boisterous social butterfly, she is fiercely protective of Seta, beyond having an emerging inflation kink as a result of knowing her secret. She tips off Seta that Liliace may be worth getting to know.
The Mannivers
The Mannivers are a staple suburban family who rescued Opalescence after the hurricane rolled through the same neighborhood they share with Logan and Marji. The husband Tom at first kept the mermaid in a kiddie pool and carried her to their home's upstairs bathroom. Lindsey, his wife, had heard of Logan being questioned by the police for dispatching another monstergirl and in time thought Opal should go home. They have a son who as innocent as he was, also grew bored of the mermaid in their space. As a religious family, they were out at a service the morning Opal wound up escaping in a tsunami of suds.
