A former grand magus of the Black Crown insurgents, and one-time claimed heir to the powerful Kozuka Clan of the Kitsune Empire. Along with their twin sister, they inadvertently led to the downfall of the Kitsune and Kioko's eventual Ascension. A nine-tailed, ebon-haired, and pale-skinned being of androgynous and gaunt build, they often use their shapeshifting in pursuit of their freedom. "Anju" is less a set appearance and more a set of traits across whatever form catches their fancy in the moment.

Their temperament is volatile, but do not mistake their lack of patience for stupidity. Their quick-thinking and clever mind can adapt to nearly any situation their temper gets them into.

Abilities

Kitsune Racial Abilities - As a Kitsune, Anju can shapeshift to a moderate degree. Kitsune also have heightened hearing and night vision compared to humans. They can also utilize powerful magic, which will be detailed below.

Lightning and Wind Elemental Mastery - Anju is a master elementalist of the sister schools of Lightning and Wind, and has effectively fluid control over each. During the Kitsune Civil War circa ~2,978 B.C., they used these powers to great effect, rending Loyalist armies asunder. Only a handful of Loyalist mages were their equal in combat.

Levitate and Flash Step - Anju is particularly fond of the spells Levitate and Flash Step to augment their mobility. Levitate allows them to move quickly through the air, and Flash Step allows them to quickly teleport short distances. Besides allowing for many angles of attack, it is often more energy efficient to evade incoming attacks rather than block them with a magical barrier. This assumes the incoming attack is powerful enough to be non-trivial to block, of course.

Alteration Magic - Anju is an oddity among Kitsune in that they chose to study Alteration magic. Kitsune are highly resistant to such spells, so the practical benefit of spells with which to change others had always been questionable in their time. However, their mastery allowed them, even in a restrained state, to cast a powerful recursive breast expansion spell on Kioko, in hopes the resistance against the human's body would create enough free energy to release them. While it eventually would, there were many unforeseen consequences.

Magical Quirk: Spiritual Resistance "Dispel Illusion" - Anju's innate magical quirk makes illusion magic affecting them, such as their natural Kitsune Glamour, extremely difficult for others to remove. This makes both detecting and unmasking them prohibitively difficult for all but the most powerful spellcasters. Funnily enough, if someone were to catch Anju without her glamour and cast an illusion spell on her, she would find it quite difficult to remove the spell!

Plot

In Kioko - Ascension, Anju is trapped within the statue Kioko wishes upon. In a gambit to escape, Anju decides to play the part of the Monkey's Paw, using the hapless human as a springboard to escape... Oops.

In Anju - War Stories, Anju flees from a battlefield behind enemy lines while under disguise. While they manage to evade through the enemy camp, their sister Momoko tracks them down and engages them in battle. Eventually Anju is defeated, and instead of killing them, Momoko seals them in a statue.

Anju then escapes the statue 5,000 years later, after absorbing enough energy from Kioko to break the seal. Related Topics
